Edmonton Oilers prospect roundup: Holiday check-in around the organization

Well it is the holiday season. With most leagues on holiday break, now is the perfect time to look at prospects performances halfway through the season. With everyone writing out holiday gift lists, and NHL organizations are no different. With NHL teams their lists include only prospect growth.

There is so much to get into this week- let’s dive right in!

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is younger than 25 years of age.

Edmonton Oilers prospect updates

AHL

  • The Bakersfield Condors sit 4–5–1 in their last ten games. They are current on a four game win streak with wins over Toronto, Henderson, and San Jose (2).
  • Goaltender Olivier Rodrigue posted his first shutout of the season, with a 33 save performance over the San Jose Barracuda on the December 20. Overall this past week he has only allowed one goal on a combined 65 shots enroute to two wins (against the Henderson Silver Knights and San Jose Barracuda).
  • Roby Järventie, and James Hamblin remain out with injury.

NCAA

  • The NCAA is on Christmas break.

OHL

  • Flint Firebirds goaltender Nathaniel Day collected a pair of wins against the Saginaw Spirit this past week. He allowed five goals on 67 shots good for a .925 save percentage. Perhaps Day has found his form for the new year.
  • Two games? five points for Barrie Colts forward, Dalyn Wakely. His offensive senses, and puck management continue to find another level as the sixth rounder looks to earn a contract for 2025–26.
  • Stonehouse shows growth in his play awareness and offensive game that adds to physical aptitude for the 67’s this past week, posting two assists in a 4–3 shootout loss to the Peterborough Petes.
  • William Nicholl posted one assist against Erie, and stayed off the scoresheet against Sarnia. Sam O’Reilly on the other hand potted a goal against Erie, and found the scoresheet three times against Sarnia. The race for the London Knights team forward scoring title is heating up.
  • Where Connor Clattenburg secured one pro contract this past week, he also secured four points in two games.

Russia

  • Nikita Yevseyev scored his first KHL goal of the season with Ak Bars Kazan this past week in a 6–5 road win versus Dynamo Moskva. The young Russian defender still averages around 10 minutes of TOI.
  • Denezhkin appeared in two games this past week finding some vision and playmaking skill as he posted one assist against Maxim Beryozkin’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl on the 20th.
  • Beryozkin continues to find momentum in the KHL, averaging 16 minutes per game in two games this past week, on route to posting one goal.
