Edmonton Oilers sign Connor Clattenburg to three-year entry level contract

The Edmonton Oilers inked one of their top prospects to an entry-level contract this week. Connor Clattenburg, represented by Dan Milstein at Gold Star Hockey, is the newest member of the Oilers organization.

A strong power forward

The 19-year-old left-winger was drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, and is currently serving as the captain of the Flint Firebirds in the OHL. He has amassed 10 goals and 18 points in 22 games so far this season, though his strengths don’t show up on the scoresheet every single night.

Clattenburg is a power forward at 6’2″ and 205 lbs, something Oilers fans got to see in full force this past summer at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton.

He was regularly skating alongside Matt Savoie and Sam O’Reilly on the Oilers’ top line due to his ability to create space and win board battles. Clattenburg also picked up seven PIMs, none of which put his team shorthanded: five for fighting Parker Bell against the Calgary Flames, and two for roughing to stand up against a boarding penalty by Dylan Anhorn against the Winnipeg Jets.

Part of the future

Clattenburg can play with highly skilled players and has the makings of a power forward in the professional ranks. He will be a big part of the Oilers’ system for the next several years, and it will be interesting to watch him progress in the OHL this season.

Next season, Clattenburg will be eligible to play in the AHL since he’ll turn 20 in May next year. Depending on how the roster for the Bakersfield Condors plays out, Clattenburg could either play his overage season in the OHL, or could play for the Condors in the AHL.
