For the first time in his career, Zach Hyman is a 50-goal scorer! He potted his 50th of the 2023–24 season in Edmonton’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
Hyman becomes the second player to reach the 50-goal milestone this season behind his former teammate Auston Matthews. He currently sits second in the league in goals, eight behind Matthews for the league lead.
Zach Hyman keeps scoring with the Oilers
Hyman’s tenure in Edmonton has gone better than anyone has anticipated. Since being signed away from the Toronto Maple Leafs after the 2020–21 season, he has established himself as one of the most important members of the team and organization, quickly becoming an integral member of the core and staple on Connor McDavid‘s wing.
So far, in each of his four seasons with the Oilers, Hyman has set career-highs in most offensive categories. This year, he has already smashed his career-high in goals (previously it was 36, set last season). He may also set a new career-high in points as he is currently on pace to tie the 83 he had last season.
Hyman’s a perfect fit for Edmonton’s offence
Since signing him, Hyman has flourished within the Oilers’ system and has found a perfect niche within the lineup as McDavid’s primary winger and an amazing net-front presence, a role that Edmonton has cycled through countless players over the years preceding Hyman. In fact, this season, he is near the top of the league in goals from high-danger areas. A whopping 39 of his first 48 goals were from these areas.
A big milestone for Hyman
Congrats to Zach Hyman for becoming the seventh player in Edmonton Oilers history to record 50 goals in a single season!
