Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 55: Edmonton’s losing streak extends to three with latest loss against Flames

The Edmonton Oilers are having a rough homestand. They lost their first two games to visiting US teams and wanted to get back on the right track against the provincial rivals. Unfortunately for Edmonton, the Calgary Flames took Round 3 of this year’s Battle of Alberta, which puts Edmonton into a three-game losing streak.

Charts and observations from the setback are below!

Game events

  • The Oilers posted 35 shots but only scored three goals. Their offence was good but they had 25 shots blocked by Calgary which played a big role in them not being able to come back.
  • It was a physical game as expected with the Oilers posting 27 hits and the Flames posting 30.
  • Both teams also had at least 10 penalties each, which is the biggest indicator of just how heated this game became.

  • Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman both hit career-highs in the game for some incredible individual results, but the team didn’t get the result they wanted.
  • Mattias Janmark’s goal is now his third in four games. His offence has picked up after going a long, long stretch without a goal—prior to his latest three goals, his last goal was on November 28, 2023.

All situations Corsi

  • The Oilers were outscored in the first period and didn’t have a strong response. The late period goal from Hyman sparked a bit of energy for the Oilers to open the second, but they were outscored again as the Flames pulled away.
  • With Edmonton trailing by three, they needed a strong third period but didn’t necessarily get it. They opened the final frame with gusto, but Calgary turned it around and prevented the Oilers from establishing sustained offence.
  • The Oilers got all of their goals from in close, while the Flames were able to take advantage of Stuart Skinner from further out.
  • Edmonton being able to funnel their shots to the high-danger areas will win the most games, but they’ll need their goaltending to hold up their end of the bargain.

5v5 Corsi

  • The Oilers outplayed the Flames at 5v5, but that’s largely due to score effects. With Edmonton chasing the game, they couldn’t score much at 5v5 despite continuously chipping away.
  • Edmonton kept Calgary at bay in the second period for the most part at 5v5 but the Flames still managed one goal in very few chances in the middle frame.
  • The Oilers were the better 5v5 team when it came to shot locations, but the Flames doubled up the goal counter when it came to shot outcomes.

  1. Perhaps Edmonton would like another 8 first round draft picks produced by the role of a “die”? Interesting odds to be sure relative to the “NHL”. Perhaps they would like Jesus to have another 5 brothers with him? Perhaps, Peter & Paul? Wait, they were not biological brothers. Perhaps Edmonton would like to have more folks sell their soul for a dollar or a couple of hundred million dollars (who is counting)? (Does Pocklington ring a certain bell with anyone alive in Edmonton?) Perhaps, Edmonton would like the AB Government – so-called – to spend another 2 Billion Dollars that come from folks who actually “work for a living” and your local TNC for another brand new “arena” whilst paying the folks who work there to feed their families a meagre penance relative to take home pay. Perhaps Edmonton would like to be in a sub-tropical region of the world?. Perhaps, well, I believe that any sane person will likely get the message by now. However, let’s continue, perhaps Edmonton would like to buy the “Command Centre” in the centre of the (unknown?) universe aka the GTA in certain parlance, and win every game and “shoot the table”? What a complete joke. Actually, it is not even mildly amusing. Professional – so-called – “Ice Hockey” is almost as bad as the no fun league in the USA which is the worst sort of drivel on this insignificant blue planet. Money Money Money. Cut and dried. Pathetic is one word that comes to mind. Anybody got a thesaurus out there? What is another word for thesaurus? So-called “sports” in 2024 at the professional level are nihilistic. A self-perpetuating false economy based on gambling. Period. Speaking of which, perhaps Edmonton would like 4 periods in a game as opposed to 3. Hold on, why bother playing a 7 game final series at all or even having so-called “playoffs”? Just go to “kicks” like that other complete farce called “Soccer” or “Football” or whatever the money has named it now. Why bother keeping score at all in any “professional sport”? Perhaps humanity should engage in purposeful pursuits like clean water, clean air, crime prevention, safe and secure housing, safety, crime prevention, “Et al”. I am not talking about the “Greenhouse Effect”, Climate Change”, “Global Warming”, or whatever the WOKE imbeciles have labelled it this week. The planet has been here for well over 5 billion years by many accounts and humans likely crawled out of some slime in the last few seconds relative to geologic time. By the way, while Edmonton was used as an example above, the statements apply to 80% of the world’s so-called “Professional Sports” and thousands of cities. The 19% remaining are likely compromised as well. For you 80/20 mathematicians and statisticians out there there are “3 types of lies – Lies, Damned lies, and Statistics”. (attributed to Samuel Clemens) I do not falsely quote others and claim the quote is “mine” like the ancient legacy media does daily whilst reading from the same teleprompter akin to the first “Matrix” movie way back in 1999. 80/20, an interesting principle. That leaves 1% if you believe that 100-99 = 1. There are a lot of folks now in this world who are “WOKE” that do not. Think about that in as many contexts as your mind will allow. That being said, actually use your mind and stop watching and listening to the ancient legacy media which is controlled by 5 TNC. Soon to be 4, 3, 2, 1. Open your mind’s eye. Spread the truth while you are able and engage in meaningful pursuits instead of simply craving more money. Only gold is gold and you cannot eat it, you may be able to trade for some food for it however even this is not a certainty. Blessings to you.
