The Edmonton Oilers looked to get back to their winning ways after being dealt their third loss in a row in the Battle of Alberta. They had the task of taking on the Los Angeles Kings, a team they’re battling for playoff positioning with that’s been hot as of late.
The Oilers trailed twice and tied it up each time, then used the third period to get ahead and lock in the win.
Charts and observations from the win are below!
Game events

- Edmonton ceded 40 shots on goal while just mustering 31. While 31 is not a small number it’s rare to see them get outshot like this.
- It was a physical tilt as the two teams averaged over 35 hits, again with the Kings taking the edge here.

| Ryan Nugent-Hopkins | Connor Brown, Mattias Janmark | 16:31 | 3rd | LAK 2 – 4 EDM |
- Connor McDavid’s point streak at home continues, now up to 23 games. He’s getting all his points by means of assists and is on a goalless drought.
- Zach Hyman’s inching closer and closer to being a 40-goal scorer and he’s currently in a three-way tie for third in the NHL with his 38th marker.
- Bouchard’s go-ahead goal made up for his mistake earlier in the game that led to a Kings goal. There’s no better redemption than a game-winner.
All situations Corsi

- Both of the teams were fairly close in terms of shot attempts all game long.
- The Oilers and Kings both had dual power play opportunities that they didn’t convert on, whereas Edmonton did get one power play marker to tie it up in the second.

- The Oilers’ offence could have used some work as they weren’t as clean. While they did funnel shots into the slot, they also too many shots from all over the ice, especially along the boards.
- The defence could have tightened up as well. Stuart Skinner had a strong game with 38 stops, which was definitely helped bail his defence out.
5v5 Corsi

- At 5v5, the Oilers had their best showing in the third period. After getting the go-ahead goal, they didn’t allow the Kings to get too much momentum for a pushback. The Kings’ last 5v5 shot came midway through the third, which helped suppress the comeback attempt.

- The 5v5 shot locations shows the Oilers were the better team here as well. While the Kings did get two goals from high-danger areas, the weren’t able to get as many shots into the slot as the Oilers.
