Oilers Visual Recap 6: Edmonton loses to Wild by allowing five goals in the third period

The Edmonton Oilers faced a tough loss to the Minnesota Wild with a final score of 7–4. Despite a strong start, the Oilers struggled to maintain their lead and were outscored in the final period.

In the first period, Evan Bouchard scored just 54 seconds into the game putting the Oilers ahead 1-0. However, the Wild managed to equalize when Marco Rossi redirected a pass from Ryan Hartman shortly after. The Oilers took the lead once more with Warren Foegele’s goal, but Hartman tied it up with less than a minute to go in the opening period.

In the second period, Foegele continued his impressive performance, scoring his second goal of the night with a top-corner snipe just 33 seconds in. Two straight periods with fast goals from the Oilers was a promising sight, and that was the only goal in the middle frame. Entering the third with a lead, the Oilers’ fortunes rapidly changed.

The third period was dominated by the Wild, and they answered with their own goal in the first minute to tie the game up. One goal led to another, which led to another, and suddenly the Oilers were down 5–3 with less than ten minutes to play.

They managed to cut the deficit to one with a power play goal by Evander Kane, which happened to be their first third period goal of the season. However, Hartman scored his third goal of the night for a hat-trick, and Marcus Foligno sealed the victory with an empty-netter, ending the game at 7–4 in favour of the Wild.

The Oilers will aim to bounce back as they head home to host the New York Rangers at Rogers Place. Additionally, the team will honour Doug Weight and Charlie Huddy in a Hall of Fame ceremony during the pre-game.

  1. Should’ve been worse. Staple Bouchard’s lazy butt to the bench. He’s making Barrie’s Defense look Norris calibre by comparison. If Woodcroft doesn’t demand accountability he should take a hike. And play your young guys more. What’s the worst that could happen? They compete hard? Most of these bums are passengers right now.
