The Edmonton Oilers re-sign Adam Henrique to a two-year contract worth $3M per season

Jeff Jackson keeps on cooking.

Despite not being only the interim general manager of the team, Jackson has done an impeccable job of keeping last year’s roster intact with a few new additions. One of those key signings was the retention of prized trade deadline acquisition Adam Henrique.

The team announced that they have re-signed Henrique to a two-year contract worth$3M per season.

Getting the band back together

Henrique’s signing is crucial for a few reasons. The first being that the team’s acquisition cost of the player at the deadline was well worth the risk. Although Sam Carrick walked in free agency, it was Henrique who was the key to that deal. Keeping him around as the team’s third-line center is a massive win for the Oilers.

Additionally, thanks to the re-signing of both Connor Brown and Mattias Janmark, one of the team’s most effective lines can now grow even more together for a full season and beyond. Henrique also provides another weapon to deploy on the penalty kill, which is sure to give other teams nightmares moving forward.

The true silver lining in this deal is that Henrique has proven himself to be a consistent offensive producer in his career, leveling at around 40 points a season. His only real drop-off was during his time with the Oilers last season, meaning it’s entirely likely he will bounce back in a huge way next year.

Adding Henrique back into the mix for the 2024-25 Oilers is just what the team needed.
