The Edmonton Oilers are extending forward Mattias Janmark to a three year deal worth 1.45 million per season according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Janmark just finished his second season with the Oilers, posting four goals and eight assists in 71 games, followed by four goals and four assists in 25 playoff games. Janmark was a key part of the Oilers penalty kill, which set records this past post season. The Janitor’s duo with Connor Brown chipped for some key short handed goals during the playoff run, including the go-ahead goal in game four of the Dallas series.
However, those totals were somewhat of an outlier for Janmark, who is generally regarded as a defensively responsible winger.
Janmark was reportedly looking for term, so the extra years on the contract give him some stability in Edmonton after he had bounced between Dallas, Chicago and Vegas prior to his arrival in Oil Country. Janmark will likely slot in on the fourth line with the extra depth the Oilers signed on Monday, but has shown the ability to move up the line up as needed.
The numbers back up the narrative, with Janmark showing up as a strong defensive forward with some offensive limitations. He shouldn’t have to play top six minutes like he had previously any more, so the fit is good for Kris Knoblauch’s preferences.

The Oilers now sit with 1.333 million in cap space with 12 forwards, six defencemen and two goalies signed. They have qualified but yet to extend forward Dylan Holloway and defenceman Philip Broberg.
