The Edmonton Oilers re-sign Connor Brown to a one-year contract

The Edmonton Oilers first pending UFA signing is complete.

The team announced on Monday morning, before the start of the free agent period, that they have extended Connor Brown on a one-year, $1M contract.

More on the details here:

Keep the Connors together

Brown was one of the Oilers’ biggest offseason moves last year, bringing him in on a similar one-year deal that was worth $775k. The biggest difference was that his contract was boosted with heavy performance bonuses of $3.225M, which he would get after ten games played.

A bit of cap management to delay the hit to this season when they knew the cap could be going up. That full $3.225M counts toward the Oilers books this season, which means they probably didn’t want to lose that for nothing.

After his tough regular season, Brown finally seemed to get fully healthy during the postseason where he thrived on the third line. It makes complete sense why the Oilers would want to get another look at him during the regular season while he’s at 100%.

It’s an early win for the Oilers who are looking to re-tool the roster for another deep postseason run.
