Edmonton Oilers prospect update: Beau Akey keeps on rolling

Edmonton Oilers top prospect on defence, Beau Akey, has been keeping it consistent the last two weeks. With Akey, getting more ice time and more responsibilities, it is very nice to see him getting settled in just right as the season has finally started to take off over all parts of the hockey world.

In all fairness, Akey did start off the year a little bit slow in terms of consistent play. He wasn’t as great defensively in the last half of October as he did get a -3 rating in one game. But as the season has gone along, he has gotten much more comfortable and his consistency is now always there game by game.

Akey’s production so far

In the 14 games the Barrie Colts have played, Beau Akey has scored four goals and five assists with a +4 rating. In all three games he has played, he has garnered a goal or an assist. He has one goal and two assists in the games he has played and his ice time has been steady. Sometimes, I do get selfish because I want to see the kid out there even more than others because he brings a spark of magic onto to the ice (whether it was through making a smart read on an offensive zone rush or making a pass or shot that no one was considering).

He has gotten his game, composure to where it should be through the grind of a long season and his confidence is brimming. I do hope he gets a World Junior Championship Invite. He certainly deserves one.
