The Edmonton Oilers announce training camp cuts

The Edmonton Oilers announced new cuts from training camp on Thursday, with 15 players being sent to AHL Bakersfield as the Condors camp opens up shortly. The list includes nine forwards, five defencemen, and a goalie.

Players sent to Bakersfield

The following players were in camp on a professional tryout (PTO) and will report to Bakersfield:

  • Tyler Parks, G
  • Xavier Bernard, D
  • Noah Ganske, D
  • Jake Johnson, D
  • Connor Corcoran, D
  • Cam Wright, D
  • Ture Linden, D
  • Dino Kambeitz, D
  • Ethan De Jong, F

Meanwhile, there were six prospects on NHL contracts that were also assigned to the Condors, including:

  • Maximus Wanner, D
  • Tyler Tullio, F
  • Jake Chiasson, F
  • Jayden Grubbe, F
  • Carl Berglund, F
  • Matvey Petrov, F

Remaining players in camp

After the cuts, 20 forwards, 12 defencemen, and five goalies remain in camp. Amongst forwards, Carter Savoie might be the most surprising player to remain in camp, as he would typically fit with the group of forwards assigned to the minors today.

Noel Hoefenmayer, Ben Gleason, and Cam Dineen all remain in camp on the back end, even with a surplus of left shot defencemen. Philip Kemp is the sole remaining right shot that will likely be sent to the Condors.

The Oilers have five goalies listed, but that includes Ryan Fanti, who is month-to-month with a hip issue. There was no formal release of Nate Day, but he is no longer on the camp roster and appears active on the Flint Firebird’s roster so it’s safe to assume he was sent back to junior.

The battle for the final forward spot continues to be the biggest story in camp, with Raphael Lavoie, Lane Pederson, Brandon Sutter, and Adam Erne continue to play preseason games to establish their stake on the last major league job in Edmonton this season.
