It is official! Connor McDavid is set to return to the Edmonton Oilers lineup tonight after recovering from an ankle injury he sustained in the game’s opening minutes against the Columbus Blue Jackets just over a week ago.
McDavid returns to game action
The Oilers Captain has missed the last three gamesโfour if you count the game in which the injury occurredโas McDavid left early in the game during his first shift.
Initially believed to be much worse, the update revealed that McDavid would miss at least a few weeks, although the exact timeline was unknown.
But it appears that McDavid has made a speedy recovery, and is ready to help his team after going 2โ2โ0 in his absence.
Hopefully, he has made a full recovery and #97 has not been rushed back to game action too soon.
The week without McDavid
After falling to the Blue Jackets 6โ1 in the game that saw McDavid exit, the Oilers bounced back with two huge wins over the Predators and Flames.
The Oilers also made two call-ups, bringing up Drake Caggiula and Noah Philp from Bakersfield Condors.
Caggiula has since been sent down while Philp made his NHL debut last week, and picked up his first point in his first game, he has since been loaned to the Condors.
Leon Draisaitl stepped up in a big way for his team scoring three times while picking up three assists for six points this past week, while centring the top line between Viktor Arvidsson and Vasily Podkolzin.
Following the two wins, the Oilers were unable to score in Monday night’s 3โ0 loss to the visiting New Jersey Devils, the night after returning from Calgary where they won 4โ2 over the Flames.
Oiler fans will be ecstatic with McDavid’s timing in his return as they get set for an important match-up with their 8โ3โ1 Pacific rivals, the Vegas Golden Knights.
