With Conner McDavid injured in Monday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Oilers made two call-ups this week, including forward Noah Philp.
The 6’3″ right-shot center is expected to make his NHL debut tonight on the road against the Nashville Predators.
26-year-old Philp has had a long journey to the NHL, from a four-year WHL career, three years with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, 79 games with the Bakersfield Condors, and even stepping away from the game for a year.
After making a strong case to join the team for the season-opener, Philp returned to Bakersfield to start the season and has scored two goals and provided one assist in six games.
Where does Philp fit on the Oilers?
At the Oilers practice in Nashville, Philp was seen centring the fourth line with Derek Ryan and Corey Perry.
The Oilers are currently struggling with their penalty kill, ranking last in the NHL this season at just 62.1 percent.
Given the situation, we may see Philp be utilized on special teams, a role he has previously filled with the Condors and during the Oilers preseason.
