Featured Prospect
Shane Lachance Boston University (NCAA) 2003
Position: LW Height: 6’5″ Weight: 218
Draft year: 2021 sixth round, 186th overall.
It’s not everyday that a sophomore is named captain but Shane Lachance exemplifies that both on and off the ice. The hulking 6’5″ forward showed a good compete level, defensive instincts, and play anticipation for the Terriers against Uconn this last week. Playing as the ultimate teammate Lachance showed good stick work and play support. Look for the forward to continue the momentum.
Edmonton Oilers prospect updates
AHL
- The Bakersfield Condors are off to a quality start for the 2024โ25 AHL season, with a 2โ0โ2. This past week has been a bit of a slide, with one win over Ontario, while suffering an overtime loss to San Diego and a shoot out loss to the Calgary Wranglers.
- Forward prospect Jayden Grubbe is showing a large improvement over last season unlocking some hidden offensive instincts and playmaking leading to three points this season.
- Matt Savoie continues to impress also with three points.
- Prospects Roby Jarventie, (knee), and Brady Stonehouse (undisclosed) remain injured.
ECHL
- Connor Ungar is off to a rocky pro-start, allowing five goals on 32 shots, in his sole game this week. The Brock University product did collect the win. Expect Ungar to settle in as the season continues.
Europe
- Goaltender Eemil Vinni started his season off well, with a win, a .947 SV%, while only allowing one goal.
- 2022 fifth rounder, Samuel Jonsson, had a busy week, playing three games with mixed results.
NCAA
- Recent transfer to Boston University, Matt Copponi is looking to mesh with his new team, and played 14:46 in one regular season game against Uconn, not finding the scoresheet. The Terriers forward also played an exhibition game against Harvard posting an assist.
- Boston University has two Oilers picks with team captain Shane Lachance. Lachance leads his team in points with five. Picking up one assist against Uconn, and one in the exhibition game against Harvard. Expect the winger to continue his dominance in puck battles (56%), and compete level. Lachance is also a regular special teams contributor on both the power play and penalty kill this season.
- 2019 Oilers pick, Tomas Mazura entered his fourth NCAA season. This past week he played two games against Ferris State, and he was a playmaking machine posting four assists in the second game. Expect the centre to be a quality top six performer for St. Lawrence this season.
- 2021 third rounder, Luca Muzenberger, remains out.
- 2023 fifth rounder, Paul Fischer, continues to gain momentum with the University of Notre Dame entering into his sophomore season. The River Forrest-born defender played two games this past week posting one point. The defensive minded Fischer continues to show good defensive instincts, gap control, and chance against killing.
OHL
- 2023 second rounder, Beau Akey, was a workhorse this past week playing nearly 29 minutes against both the Owen Sound Attack on the 17, and Ottawa 67’s on the 20. The right-shot defender notched a pair of assists in that game against Ottawa.
- 2023 sixth rounder, Nathaniel Day, had mixed success this past week with three outings against the Soo Greyhounds on the 18 (.909), Erie Otters on the 19 (.848), and the Sarnia Sting (.957).
- 2024 Oilers pick, Connor Clattenburg, remains out and hasn’t played a game since October 9.
Russia
- 2019 seventh rounder, Maxim Denezhkin, posted no points in both games this past week. He looks to move up the lineup this season and find more than his normal 14:38 of icetime this season.
- 2020 fifth rounder, Maxim Beryozkin has found his stride in the KHL, playing three games this past week and finding the scoresheet in each of them. He now is on a seven-game point streak.
- 2022 sixth rounder, Nikita Yevseyev recently got sent down by KHL club Kazan Ak Bars to VHL affiliate Almetyevsk Neftyanik. There he played his first two games this past week, playing 17:12 in his first game, and 15:06 in his second, while posting no points.
