Edmonton Oilers Prospects Roundup: Caden Harvey is impressive on the Windsor Spitfires

The Edmonton Oilers are thriving, but what about their minor league affiliates? A mixed bag. The Bakersfield Condors are looking to turn their early season around as they sit near the bottom of the AHL, and the Fort Wayne Komets have finally found some momentum as the ECHL goes into full swing. Elsewhere in developmental hockey, the Windsor Spitfires continue to find moderate success led by Oilers prospect Caden Harvey.

Let’s take a look at everything from the past week in the Oilers system.

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues to go along with a feature one standout prospect in Edmonton’s system. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is born 2002 or earlier.

Caden Harvey, Forward, Windsor Spitfires, OHL

Harvey’s development so far

Harvey was initially drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round of the 2026 NHL draft, with the 180th overall pick. During his draft year, the two-way forward primarily served as a secondary checker in Windsor’s middle-six, where he showed strong physicality, compete level, and puck skills.

The forward had a role no matter where he was on the ice, be it to physically slow down pace of play defensively, or be a play connector/maker in the offensive zone. The only thing the young OHLer needed was opportunity.

Opportunity is certainly what he’s got this season as he is an undeniable top line forward for the Spitfires, and is converting offensively with three goals and 12 assists across just 13 games this season. His TOI has also skyrocketed from last season to being a reliable top forward at both 5v5 and special teams averaging 19:04 per contest.

Opportunity is also something he will continue to get as the Pennsylvania product is committed to UPenn for the 2027–28 season, which should continue to elevate his overall game.

What does Harvey have to do this season?

Harvey is on track to smash his offensive personal bests this season, and a large portion of it comes from timing with eight of graduated players being forwards from the Spitfires 2025–26 roster. This created lots of space for Harvey to work his way up the lineup.

With further refinements of his skating speed/mechanics, improved all around hockey sense that can come from experience, and overall puck playing refinement, Harvey should put himself in a good position to succeed for both this season and beyond.

Overall the 2026 sixth rounder does have a lot of runway, and could realistically be a NHL bottom-six forward if everything goes right.

Harvey’s season stats so far

Early into the 2026–27 campaign, Harvey has proven to be a trusted forward on the Windsor bench. He averages the previously mentioned 19:04 per game with 3:20 of it on the power play, and 1:50 of it on the penalty kill. Also key is where Harvey’s starting his shifts as he begins 41% of all shifts in the O-zone, 24% in the neutral zone, and 35% in his own end.

Physically standing at 6’1”, Harvey shows a good willingness to involve himself in the dirty areas with 15 puck battles a game, that equates to a 48% win rate. This is also compounded by a 0.27 shots block rate, 0.73 hits, and 0.40 hits against per game. He also has good physical habits in terms of balance, leverage, and growing muscle mass.

When it comes to puck handling Harvey has some inconsistencies that are typically expected with 106 puck touches a game, including a 2–1 giveaway/takeaway ratio, and a low 65% success rate on dekes. The OHLer’s pass accuracy sits around average with 23 passes a game, and a 83% accuracy rate. Habits wise Harvey does move the pace with six zone entries, and four breakouts per game.

More impressive then any of Harvey’s direct handling stats is the fact that he has a low 0.13 rate of errors leading to a goal, and a 2.1 scoring chances against saved rate. Talk about defensive instincts and awareness.

In the offensive zone Harvey displays some positive stats with a 55% Corsi-for rate, a 0.48 goals expected rate, 3.7 scoring chances, and 5.8 shots per game. Although this is countered by a poor 60% shot accuracy, and a lowly 9% conversion rate on all scoring chances for. So Harvey knows how to make plays and where to support, but struggles with finishing.

What all of these stats show are consistent improvement from the OHL middle-six forward that he was last season, to a true OHL breakout candidate this season. Harvey has the blueprint to be an highly effective shutdown forward as he ages up and prepares to adjust to the NCAA next season.

Edmonton Oilers prospect updates

AHL

  • The Condors are in a rough spot after dropping both of their games this past week, going 0–2–0. The first loss came on October 30, in a 5–1 fashion to the Abbotsford Canucks, and the second was a 3–2 loss to the San Jose Barracuda on November 1.
  • The Condors now sit 3–5–1 on the 2026–27 campaign, which is good for 31st in the AHL. It might be past Halloween, but their future outlook is quite spooky still.
  • With veteran netminder, Matt Tomkins being called up to the NHL, keep an eye on net with three (Jonsson, Day, and Ungar) Oilers prospects battling for a backup role. In their very early appearances, Samuel Jonsson seems to being leading the charge with a respectable 2.17 GAA, and a .932 save percentage.
  • Defender John Gormley was called up to the Condors from Fort Wayne on the 27th. Forward Jack Kopacka was released from his PTO with Bakersfield on the 28th.

ECHL

  • The Komets are now at .500 on the season after going 2–1-0 this past week. They started the week with a 4–1 loss to Wheeling. The Komets then recovered with a pair of wins, one coming against Toledo in a 2–1 fashion on the 31st, and a 4–3 victory against the Indy Fuel the following day. Their next game is November 6 against Bloomington.
  • The Komets now have a 3-3–0 record on the season, and sit fourth in the ECHL’s Central Division, and 18th overall.
  • Expect Oilers 2024 second rounder Eemil Vinni to take the majority of starts with Day and Jonsson up in the AHL.

Europe

  • Oilers 2025 sixth-round prospect goaltender, Daniel Salonen, continues to have a stellar season in the Finnish Liiga, as he secured his 8th win of the season in a 3–1 game against KooKoo on the 30th. The Espoo product made 26/27 stops in his sole start of the past week.
  • 24-year-old Roby Jarventie is on a five-game point streak. It’s past Halloween, and Jarventie is no longer ghosting anyone. The sniper is consistently showing up every game, including in each of his two games this past week, with an two assist outing against ZSC Lions on the 30th, and netting a goal the following day in his match against HC Lugano.

NCAA

  • Defender Zack Sharp has had a mixed season so far, but he picked up his fourth assist of the season in his second game of the week against Long Island University on the 30th. The two-way defender has seen a slightly reduced role this season averaging 17 minutes of TOI per game. Teammate Tommy Lafreniere is over a point per game after a three assist outting in the first matchup against LIU on the 30th.
  • Power forward, and Oilers 2024 sixth-round pick, Dalyn Wakely continues to build momentum with UMass-Lowell, as he found the scoresheet with an assist in each of his games against Colgate on the 30th and 31st. The prospect’s transition game remains his main area of needed growth as he can get caught behind pace of play.
  • Forward Aidan Park remains out of the University of Michigan’s lineup, and has only appeared in three games so far this season. Barnett, has appeared in all nine, but remains a stable shut-down insurance option for his team.

OHL

  • Windsor Spitfire defender, Andrew Robinson is out with an injury as he has not played since October 22. Fellow Oilers’ prospect and Spitfires forward Caden Harvey had a strong week, with two multi-point games of the three total games he played this past week. He first appeared in a 3–0 win against Erie. The two-way forward then posted a goal and assist in Windsor’s Halloween 8–0 victory, which then continued with a pair of assists in their November 1 game against the Steelheads.
