Award season is getting underway as the nominations for the annual NHL awards start to funnel in. Earlier today, the NHL announced the league-wide nominees for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
For the Edmonton Oilers, defender Darnell Nurse was nominated for the award.
This marks the third consecutive season that Nurse has been the Oilers’ nominee for the award. His contributions to the community have, over the years, made a significant impact on many people’s lives.
Nurse is an ambassador for Free for Play Kids, which helps underrepresented youth play the game of hockey for free.
Additionally, Nurse manages and funds a scholarship back in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario that awards two students per year a scholarship to help with their post-secondary aspirations.
Nurse’s efforts as a leader, positive role model, and all around good person are not going unnoticed.

If the Oilers go out first round then players like Dria might want to move on, if that happens then so will McDavid.
A few years from now, this could be a completely different team than the one we have right now.
This team has never been good enough defensively when they play the elite teams in the playoffs, and with the contracts they have it will never change.
The team is built from the front backwards, maybe they can make this work, maybe.
