- McDavid’s six assists consisted of three primary and three secondary assists. It was his first five-assist game, but he topped it off to make it his first six-assist game too.
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evan Bouchard both hit three points each.
- Detroit scored on two of their three power plays, making for a less-than-ideal penalty killing result by the Oilers.
- The five-goal third period was a spectacle as Edmonton easily pulled away from the game after Detroit tied it up at three apiece.
All situations Corsi
- The Oilers were actually outshot by the Red Wings for the entire game. Not a major concern here as they kept racking on goals and never trailed.
- Edmonton had bursts of offence while also having lulls. However, they scored on almost every burst.
- This is an interesting shot chart. Both teams got a good chunk of high-danger shots. Neither team played good defence as it was just a back-and-forth for shots all game.
- Edmonton scored five goals from in the slot for a highly efficient outcome.
5v5 Corsi
- As mentioned, the Oilers had zero power plays. They still put up 58 shot attempts in the game, which is pretty impressive. They edged the Red Wings in 5v5 Corsi by the final buzzer.
- Considering every single shot the Oilers had was at 5v5, this outcome represents best-in-class offence from Edmonton. Few teams, if any, would challenge for having better 5v5 systems than Edmonton.
- Detroit’s shot plot looks less impressive at 5v5, but they did get fewer high-danger shots, so to some degree 5v5 defence from Edmonton was a bit better compared to their penalty killing.
