Edmonton Oilers recall forward Dylan Holloway from AHL’s Bakersfield Condors

The Edmonton Oilers announced Sunday that forward Dylan Holloway has been recalled from the Bakersfield Condors. Holloway had been previously loaned to the AHL on January 27 ahead of the Oilers bye week and the NHL All-Star break.

Dylan Holloway season so far

The 22-year-old forward has two goals and one assist in 18 games with the Oilers this year to go with 13 penalty minutes and a -2 rating. Holloway missed some time late in the fall after sustaining a leg injury when he awkwardly crashed into the boards in November.

Before the break, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch had put Holloway together on a line with right handed pivot Ryan McLeod, which gave Edmonton third-line two speedsters to go with a veteran right winger, which had either been Connor Brown or new signing Corey Perry. The early returns with both right wingers had been good, so look for that line to continue to see action as the Oilers return this week eager to continue the historic win streak.

There may be opportunity as well to continue developing Holloway at the centre position, an experiment that started in his return from injury.

What did this move do for the Edmonton Oilers?

In four games of action with the Condors, he recorded two goals and two assists. However, none of those games came over the past eight days, indicating that this was a paper transaction to get the Oilers a little more cap space heading into the deadline.

The 14th overall pick in the 2020 draft carries an AAV for 925K this year, meaning his daily cap hit is approximately $4817.71. This means the Oilers gained $38,541.67 in cap space with the move. With 41 of the 192 days in the NHL season remaining at the trade deadline, Ken Holland and crew have given themselves the ability to add approximately 180.5K in cap hit at the deadline.

Looking ahead to the upcoming week

The Oilers return to action on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights. Holloway and the rest of the third line will likely pay a pivotal role in the match up, as Chandler Stephenson and William Karlsson have slid up the lineup in Jack Eichel‘s absence, leaving the normally deep Golden Knights without an established third line centre.
