Edmonton Oilers send down Philip Broberg to AHL Bakersfield

The Edmonton Oilers announced today that defenseman Philip Broberg has been sent down to the AHL Bakersfield Condors.

This comes on the heels of another injury to the Oilers forward group, with Connor Brown getting hurt in the Oilers loss to the Dallas Stars.

With Mattias Janmark also hurt and not on the ice all week long, the Oilers had no choice but to send down the waiver ineligible Broberg to make room for another forward recall.

Without this move, the Oilers would have only had 10 healthy forwards on their roster. Now, they’ll be able to roll out a lineup of 11 forwards and six defensemen, rather than 10 forwards and seven defensemen.

Corresponding forward recall

Options for a corresponding forward recall include Adam Erne, Raphael Lavoie, James Hamblin, Lane Pederson, and Brad Malone.

For players who have cleared waivers, they are eligible to be moved freely between the NHL and AHL for 30 days after clearing.

Erne cleared waivers on November 1st, so he can be moved freely until December 1st.

Lavoie cleared on October 9th, so he can be moved freely until November 8th, which is in five days time.

Smart money is on Erne being the callup rather than fan favourite Lavoie.
