After stealing home ice away from the Vegas Golden Knights with a resounding Game 2 victory, the Edmonton Oilers had a great chance to grab the series lead as they opened their home games for the second round of the playoffs. However, despite a good start, things went immediately south for the home team.
Warren Foegele opened up the scoring just minutes into the first period to snap a lengthy goalless drought, but the Golden Knights responded. First, they tied it up just two minutes after, and then they closed out the first period with a 2–1 lead. Both goals were scored by Jonathan Marchessault with the primary assists coming from Jack Eichel.
Vegas continued to pad their lead, scoring three times in the second period to parallel the score from Game 2 with a 5–1 scoreboard. Edmonton wasn’t able to respond at all and it was one of their more ineffective games in terms of generating sustained offence.
As such, they dropped Game 3 and are looking to tie the series up again on Wednesday May 10. Charts from the game are below.
