The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games will conclude on Sunday, February 22. Men’s Hockey has showcased one standout player: Connor McDavid. In his first Olympic Games, McDavid has played nearly unstoppable hockey and lived up to his reputation as the NHL’s (and world’s) best player, performing at his peak under the brightest lights.
With 11 points through his first four games of play as of writing, McDavid has already tied an NHL Canadian Olympic Record for the most points in one tournament. Previously, Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu, while playing for Finland in 2006, each reached 11 points in a single Olympic tournament. Among active NHL players, Sidney Crosby, Shea Weber, and Jonathan Toews each have 11 or more points across their entire Olympic careers, not just in one tournament.
Teemu Selanne
Back in 2006 in Turin, Italy, 20 years ago, Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu, and Team Finland were the team to beat. Unfortunately, Sweden would end up breaking the hearts of the Fins, as they would walk away with the gold medal and Finland the silver. The Finnish Flash was one of the best players in the history of the NHL, with 684 goals, 773 assists, and 1457 points, in 1451 career games.
On the Olympic stage, Selanne has proven to be the best of All-Time, because through 30 Olympic games played, he has produced 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points. He played in six Winter Olympics across the span of 22 years (1992, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014).
Saku Koivu
Saku Koivu was another star player in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, but also put up five goals and 18 assists for a total of 23 points in 20 Olympic games. Having a player like Selanne as a teammate in the Olympics, it is no wonder why Koivu performed as well as he did. In his NHL career, Saku earned 255 goals and 577 assists, for 832 points in 1124 games.
Sidney Crosby
“Sid the Kid” Crosby is currently one of the top eight NHL players of all-time in terms of career points, and is Canada’s all-time leader at the Olympics as well. On the Olympic stage, Crosby is most well-known for the goal that has consistently been heard around the world. The “Golden Goal” in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.
In his NHL career, Crosby just never seems to age and consistently puts up a point-per-game or more every season. In 21 seasons to date, he has not ended a season under a point-per-game, even with injuries, etc. At 38 years old, Sidney is currently competing in his third Winter Olympics with Team Canada (talk about experience.) In 21 Olympic Games played, Crosby has eight goals and 13 assists, for a total of 21 points. Across his NHL career, he has 652 goals and 1094 assists for a total of 1746 points.
Shea Weber
Shea Weber, who had one of the hardest shots in the NHL, was also able to perform really well with Team Canada at the Winter Olympics. In 13 career Olympic games played, Weber managed to produce five goals and seven assists for 12 points. Shea also scored a very memorable Olympic goal that we will probably never see again.
Weber played for the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens throughout his NHL career, and was able to produce 224 goals and 365 assists for 589 points in 1038 games. Shea played in seven NHL All-Star Games and seemed to consistently win the hardest shot competition.
Jonathan Toews
Jonathan Toews, who managed to win three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009-2010, 2012-2013, and 2014-2015 alongside Patrick Kane, was a part of a very dominant team throughout the early 2010’s. In his NHL career, he currently has 379 goals and 523 assists for a total of 902 points.
Toews played in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and 2014 Sochi Olympics, where he helped Team Canada win back-to-back Olympic Gold Medals. In 13 games played, he managed to earn two goals and nine assists for 11 Olympic points.
Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid was born with a natural ability to play hockey, and it was shown through every level that he played, even before he hit the NHL. Throughout his career, Connor has continually put up video-game-like numbers and made playing at the highest level look very easy. Through 11 seasons in the NHL, McDavid has ended up with eight 100-point seasons already, and as of writing, is currently on pace for his ninth and sixth in a row. Connor has only played 770 games, and already has 395 goals and 783 assists for 1178 career points.
McDavid has never had the opportunity to play at the Winter Olympics and represent Team Canada, but in 2026, he now has that chance and has definitely not let any of us down so far. He has been waiting his entire life for this moment, so it is no wonder that he has already been so good with 11 points through his first four games ever.
With three assists against Czechia, one goal and two assists against Switzerland, one goal and two assists against France, and two assists against Czechia in the Quarterfinals yesterday, he has already tied the NHL player record for points in one tournament. With potentially two games left, including the Gold Medal Game, Connor is already on pace to shatter the All-Time Canadian record (currently held by Sidney Crosby) and is going to pass Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu.
Oilers Fans! What have you thought of McDavid’s unreal start to his Olympic career, and how many more points do you think that he is going to get before the end of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games? Let us know by leaving a comment.
