The Edmonton Oilers announced that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has suffered an injury and will be out for tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He is expected to be out for a week, according to head coach Kris Knoblauch.
What does Nugent-Hopkins’ injury mean for the Edmonton Oilers?
Nobody looked good in the team’s 9–1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche the other night, but Nugent-Hopkins was particularly bad. He only featured for 7:45 in the loss and did not record a single scoring chance or high danger chance at 5v5. His 5v5 xGF% was a team low 8.68%- yikes!
These numbers suggest that either something went wrong in that game for him or that a previous injury had worsened. Given his timeline is just a week, fingers crossed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ injury is nothing serious. The team desperately needs him back, with Zach Hyman still out of the lineup.
Mattias Janmark will skate in his place against the Blue Jackets, with David Tomasek also drawing in in place of Curtis Lazar. The Blue Jackets sit 8th in the Metropolitan Division with a 7–7–0 record this season. This will be the first meeting for the two teams this season.
The Oilers then play them on the road again on Thursday, with a quick stop in Seattle to face the Kraken tomorrow.
Puck drop tonight from Rogers Place is 6:30 pm local time, and the game will be on Amazon Prime.
