The Edmonton Oilers were able to get off their three game skid and started the week off on the right foot. Starting week #3, the Oilers found themselves on the road against one of their Canadian rivals, the Ottawa Senators.
How this week’s games played out
Edmonton Oilers at Ottawa Senators
The Oilers ended their five game road trip with a win and went 2–3 in the process. Stuart Skinner was solid in this game and was able to earn himself a save percentage of .905, thanks to 19 saves on 21 shots.
Edmonton walked away with a 3–2 overtime victory, with goals from Connor McDavid and Issac Howard. The game winner coming off the stick of defencemen Jake Walman. The Oilers outshot the Senators 25–21. Jake Walman was the first star of the game, while Howard was the second star.
Montreal Canadiens at Edmonton Oilers
Finally back home at Rogers Place, the Oilers saw a matchup against one of the best original six teams of all time, the Montreal Canadiens. There were goals galore in this game, with Edmonton ending up winning by a final score of 6–5.
The Oilers received their goals from six different scorers and scored three goals including the game winner, in the final 7:32 of the game. David Tomasek, Adam Henrique, Andrew Mangiapane, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Vasily Podkolzin, all found the back of the net. Edmonton outshot Montreal 29–27 and finally showed a little bit of depth scoring. Podkolzin was the first star of the game, while McDavid was the second star.
Edmonton Oilers at Seattle Kraken
Game three in week three saw the Oilers come face-to-face with the Seattle Kraken. Edmonton was not able to find a way to win this game and Stuart Skinner struggled as well. The Oilers lost by a final score of 3–2.
The Oilers received their only two goals of the game from two of their defenders. Defence showed some offence in this game, with a goal from Evan Bouchard and a goal from Darnell Nurse. Edmonton outshot the Devils 33–23, but unfortunately still lost the game. Kris Knoablauch had this to say about the way that the team has played recently,
“We’re not playing very good hockey right now,” he admitted. “We’ve got to improve a lot of things puck play, being a little faster, quicker, pursuing pucks… once we get more comfortable with each other, we become a little more predictable. And when you become more predictable, you play faster.”
Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks
The final game of the week took place last night, west of Alberta, in Vancouver against the Canucks. The Oilers found themselves up against a team that was currently on a three-game winning streak. Edmonton had a record of 2–1 heading into this game, so they are looking to keep the momentum going.
Edmonton received its goals from one of its newest players and Leon Draisaitl. Former Carolina Hurricane Jack Roslovic and Leon Draisaitl, who scored his seventh of the season in his tenth game. The Oilers outshot the Canucks 29–27, but unfortunately lost 4–3 in overtime. Edmonton did not deserve a chance to win this game. Leon Draisaitl earned his reward, which was being second star of the game./

Utah Mammoth at Edmonton Oilers, Tuesday, October 28
The Oilers’ first game of week three and first of their three-game homestead will see them go head-to-head against the Utah Mammoth.
Utah is off to a very hot start this season with an 8–2 record through their first ten games of the season. 29-year-old Nick Schmaltz, is off to a great start this season, as he currently leads the Mammoth in points with seven goals and nine assists for 16 points.
New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers, Thursday, October 30
The Oilers’ second game of regular season week three will see them match up against an original six team, the New York Rangers.
Last game, the Oilers finished with a shutout win, thanks to a final score of 2–0 on Tuesday October 14. In that game against New York, Edmonton was outshot 30–22 and Stuart Skinner was rock solid, as he made all 30 saves.
Chicago Blackhawks at Edmonton Oilers, Saturday, November 1
The Oilers’ third and final game of week three will see them match up against yet another original six team, the Chicago Blackhawks. Last season, the Oilers finished with two wins and one loss, thanks to both of the wins taking place on the road and the only loss happening at home. In those games against the Blackhawks, the Oilers were outscored 11–10.
It seems like the Oilers are more cold than hot right now and it definitely shows with their game play at the moment. They have not found their team identity yet and if they are looking to make that noticeable this season, it will help them figure out some team plays, systems and dynamics. Oilers fans!
