Edmonton Oilers acquire goaltender Connor Ingram from Utah Mammoth

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired goaltender Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for future considerations. Utah is also retaining $800K of his $1.95M cap hit, so Ingram will count for $1.15M against the salary cap. He will report to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

The reason for the $800K retention is that the maximum buriable cap hit in the AHL is $1.15M – Ingram will not count towards Edmonton’s salary cap while he’s in the AHL.

Ingram was placed on waivers earlier this week by the Mammoth but went unclaimed.

A career filled with adversity

After putting up sensational numbers in junior and the AHL, Ingram struggled to succeed in the NHL and entered the NHLPA Player Assistance Program in 2021. He spoke out publicly about his struggles with clinical depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, which almost led to him retiring from the spot altogether.

He rejoined the league and, two seasons ago in the 2023-24 campaign, Ingram was one of the best stories in the NHL. He had a breakout season, setting career highs for the Arizona Coyotes. He played 50 games, posted a 23-21-3 record, and recorded a 2.91 GAA and .907 SV%. He was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy that season for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Unfortunately, Ingram reentered the Program in March 2025 after he lost his mother to breast cancer.

On August 20, 2025, Ingram returned to the league once again.

What are the next steps for Ingram

Because Ingram has been away from the league for quite some time, he will require conditioning in the AHL before becoming a legitimate NHL option. However, looking at his body of work in the NHL while healthy indicates the Oilers may have themselves a true NHL goaltender who can push Stuart Skinner and solidify the crease.

Welcome to Edmonton, Connor!
