Rumour: Edmonton Oilers new third jersey leaked?

The longtime rumour that the Edmonton Oilers will be getting a new third jersey this season looks to be true. We haven’t received any formal announcement about when this jersey will be revealed, however with the team back in town and training camp just around the corner, we may have gotten some hints. Here’s what we know.

Jersey concept leak

Earlier today, a concept of the new jersey may have been leaked on social media. We don’t know if this is the real thing or not, but based on the whispers over the summer, it definitely could be. Insiders have said the jersey will likely be a wordmark style with either the word “Edmonton” or the word “Oilers” across the front. As well, the colour will be an off-white, used as an away jersey.

The photo we saw today matches this description. Here’s what it looks like:

Details of the potential new third jersey

This isn’t a copper and blue jersey that some expected, rather it is an off-white base with the regular blue and orange Oilers colours on the current jerseys. The wordmark across the front says “Oilers” in a cursive-style blue font, overlined and underlined in orange.

The patch on the right shoulder is hard to make out, and it could be brand new.

Rumoured official launch date

The third jersey is rumoured to be scheduled for an official launch on Fan Day, on September 20, 2025. This isn’t confirmed, but it does make sense for the team to align the launch of new merch on Fan Day.

What do you think?

So, Oilers fans, what are your thoughts on this jersey?

  1. Who designs all these jerseys? I think whoever it is has all their taste in their mouth. A 6 yr old fan would come up with better designs that this person earning big bucks.

  2. That is really bad. When there are endless interesting things you can do with a team called ‘The Oilers’, that is the best they can come up with? Why not have a competition like they did with the Canada flag? At least then we can see a few interesting ideas, and maybe get a jersey people would actually want to wear/buy.

  3. This is what you get when Bettmann changes the licensing companies for all the uniforms in the league every 10 minutes (or so it seems). I’m sure he’s getting a taste every time it happens. Each new licencee feels they have to come up with “new” designs to get the suckers to shell out for one more new jersey for their collection to boost their sales revenue. The fact that, apparently, all the official game jerseys are made by the same manufacturer (regardless of licencee) should be a clue that this isn’t about the fans, but all about the money. The fact that the latest “alternate” design looks like someone just scrawled a word on a bar napkin, and will only be seen at away games should be a strong indicator that it will be a flop financially. Bring back the dark navy/orange design that was hugely popular a few years ago!
