Edmonton Oilers

What products Edmonton Oilers should be the spokesperson for

In addition to their salaries, some NHL players supplement their income with brand sponsorships and endorsements. Recently, Zach Hyman announced a sponsorship with Oreo and Connor McDavid did a marketing campaign with Auston Matthews for McDonalds.

Sponsorships don’t tend to necessarily be all that relevant to said player. Usually it is just the fact that the player has some kind of cache that the brand can use to try to sway potential customers.

But if there did have to be some kind of fit, which products would be best represented by some Oilers players?

Zach Hyman: book company

Sure, most people wouldn’t consider a hockey player to be the best face for books, but considering Hyman is already a published author, this one seems like kind of a no-brainer.

Leon Draisaitl: burger flipper

This is another obvious one, given the fact that Draisaitl’s stick has been referred to as a “burger flipper” given the unique size and shape of the blade. But add in the fact that Draisaitl is German, where the hamburger is (maybe?) from, and it just becomes even more “perfekt.”

Mattias Janmark: mops

This one is based on Mattias Janmark’s nickname being the “Janitor,” which is a nod to both his name and the way he plays. Janmark has been money on the penalty kill, where one can argue he is cleaning up after his teammates’ mess. And what does one use to clean up a mess?

Connor Brown: revitalizing cream

While skincare products aren’t what one usually thinks of for a sports endorsement, Connor Brown would be a great spokesman considering how he has revitalized his Oilers career after a pretty horrid start, going from whipping boy to fan favourite. Although having to explain to Jeff Skinner after he orders a whole case that it wasn’t the cream that helped Brown may be a bit of an awkward conversation.

The whole Oilers team: airline points

Being the northernmost city in the league is going to end up resulting in a fair amount of travel. But the Oilers as a team are consistently one of the highest in the league. This season, they sit fourth at 50,000 miles, but that mostly due to the fact that the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers had a trip to Finland to play. Otherwise, they are just 1,000 miles back from the Anaheim Ducks.

So yeah, hopefully they are using a card that gets them some points for their troubles.
