The Edmonton Oilers have acquired Jacob Perreault from the Montreal Canadiens

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Jacob Perreault from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer. The trade is strictly a one-for-one swap.

Both players have been in the minors for the majority of their playing careers so far. Perreault, 22, was a former first-round pick by the Anaheim Ducks back in 2020 and has only appeared in one NHL game during the 2021-22 season. He was traded to Montreal from Anaheim back in March for Jan Mysak and has since been playing in the AHL. This season, Perreault is with the ECHL’s Trois-Rivieres Lions where he has five points in five games played.

Hoefenmayer, 25, was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes (now the Utah Hockey Club) in the fourth round back in 2017 and has yet to appear in any NHL games. He’s been a regular in the AHL for the last three seasons, currently playing for the Bakersfield Condors where he has seven points in 11 games.

This trade provides a change of scenery for both players and since Perreault is still only 22 years old, he’ll get the chance to further establish himself at the professional level.
