Connor McDavid records 1000th career NHL point

The captain has done it! Connor McDavid has hit one of the biggest individual milestones in his career thus far. He has just recorded his 1000th career point with his goal against the Nashville Predators!

The 1000-point mark is one of the biggest individual markers that a player can hit. McDavid is just the 99th player in NHL history to reach this total. Ironic, isn’t it, that he is the 99th?

How did McDavid get to 1000?

Now in his 10th career season, all with the Oilers, McDavid has held the title of best player in the league (and world) for most of that time. He is putting up offensive numbers that hadn’t been seen in nearly three decades.

Since his injury shortened rookie season in which he (only) had 48 points in 45 games, McDavid has his 100 points in every season except one. The COVID shortened 2019–20 season. He finished that one with 97 points in 64 games.

McDavid has led the league in scoring five times over his career (so far) to go along with four Lester Pearson Awards, three Hart Trophies, and one Rocket Richard.

Currently, his career highs stand at 64 goals and 153 points, both achieved in the 2022–23 season. His 153 points were the most of any player in a single season since the mid 1990s.

His career high of 100 assists, his total from last season, made him the fourth in NHL history to record hit that mark.

What milestones are next for McDavid?

Given his career scoring trajectory, McDavid should easily hit 700 assists by season’s end. He currently has 659. He also has a long-shot chance of reaching 400 goals, as he is 59 away from that and would hit 400 if he were to set a new career high in goals.

There is also a very real chance of him reaching 1100 points this season, as well, as 100 points in 64 games is well within reach of his scoring pace.
