EA Sports NHL25: Edmonton Oilers Player Ratings

The new NHL game hit the shelves yesterday and EA officially dropped their ratings for the Edmonton Oilers and Bakersfield Condors this season. Let’s go over a quick look on the Oilers and some of the Condors ratings and give out some quick thoughts:

Forwards

  • Connor McDavid: 97
  • Leon Draisaitl: 95
  • Zach Hyman: 89
  • Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: 87
  • Jeff Skinner: 86
  • Viktor Arvidsson: 84
  • Evander Kane: 84
  • Adam Henrique: 83
  • Mattias Janmark: 80
  • Corey Perry: 79
  • Vasily Podkolzin: 79
  • Connor Brown: 79
  • Derek Ryan: 79
  • Matthew Savoie: 76
  • Roby Jarventie: 77

Defence/Goalies

  • Evan Bouchard: 89
  • Mattias Ekholm: 87
  • Darnell Nurse: 85
  • Ty Emberson: 77
  • Brett Kulak: 80
  • Troy Stecher: 79
  • Josh Brown: 77
  • Stuart Skinner: 86
  • Cal Pickard: 80

Are the ratings good?

One thing I noticed was how EA’s ratings reveal said Ekholm was an 87 but he drops to an 86. Weird. After a career season and being an 87 last year, he goes down in rating? I don’t get it at all. Typical Vancouver bias, maybe.

I think McDavid should be a 99, too. He’s the best player in the game and the rating should reflect that. As Connor said it himself, if Madden/FC can have 99s, why not the NHL?

I also think Bouchard should be a 90 but I get the fact they’d probably like to see him repeat the season head. For the most part though, the ratings are solid.

When it comes relative to the league though, I think the Oilers got robbed.

Hyman didn’t make any of the top 10 wingers list, McDavid was TIED for first in speed despite clearly being the best skater in the game, Bouchard was tied for fourth among right shot defenders which include old, washed vets in Alex Pietrangelo and John Carlson, Ekholm not making the top 10 LHD and LOSING in overall despite having his best season yet, and the list goes on.

Again, smells like the old Vancouver bias!

If you’re interested in the guys we lost this summer, former Oilers include:

  • Cody Ceci (SJ): 82
  • Warren Foegele (LA): 83
  • Vincent Desharnais (VAN): 79
  • Ryan McLeod (BUF): 81
  • Sam Carrick (NYR): 78

Ceci is definitely high, Foegele should be around an 82 and the other three look fine.

What’s your thoughts on the ratings? What would you change?
