Edmonton Oilers announce 2024–25 training camp roster

Regular season action is just a few short weeks away now as we hit the opening of the Edmonton Oilers training camp today. With that, we now know who has been invited to take part in camp and it gives us a chance to look at some candidates to push for an opening night roster spot. The Oilers are going to be a very deep team this season, and it’s finally time to get started.

Hockey is back in Oil County

In all, the team has invited 33 forwards, 17 defenders, and six goalies to participate in camp this year

Of major note, Kane will be held out of camp due to a surgery he undertook prior to the start of the season. Beau Akey is also expected to be out, after not taking part in the Penticton Young Stars Classic. Nurse is also expected to be out for the start of camp, but should return soon enough.

Some players are (obviously) locks to make the team. But a few players will be worth watching to see how they engage with training camp.

Of particular note will be how the Oilers line up on defence. Ekholm, Bouchard, Nurse, and Kulak are all locks for the roster. Emberson probably has a roster spot lined up as well, after being acquired this summer from the San Jose Sharks. This leave Carrick, Brown, and Stecher vying for the sixth and seventh spots on the roster.

The other interesting question is what the Oilers do with Podkolzin, who they recently acquired from the Vancouver Canucks. There’s a chance he earns a roster spot with the team to start the season, but he will be competing with a number of veterans and other prospects for that spot.

Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks as storylines from camp come out and rosters begin to take shape!
