Edmonton Oilers sign goaltender Collin Delia to a one-year two-way contract

The Edmonton Oilers have reportedly signed goaltender Collin Delia to a one-year, two-way contract. The 30-year-old is listed at 6’2″ and 207 pounds.

The deal is worth $775K in the NHL and $400K in the minors, with a $425K guaranteed salary.

Delia spent last season with the Manitoba Moose, who are Winnipeg’s affiliate. In 32 games, Delia posted a 11-19-1 record, .872 SV% and 3.55 GAA. In the previous seasons, Delia split time between the NHL and AHL while playing in the Canucks and Blackhawks organizations. Perhaps most notably in the memory of Oilers’ fans, Delia had one start on December 23, 2022 against Edmonton, where he made 31 saves in a 5-2 victory on Rogers Place ice.

AHL depth in goal

Analytically, Delia profiles as a below expected netminder, but has been able to carry some workload when injuries have arose, in the past. Delia has explosive skating skills, being able to move around the crease with ease. His issues have typically come from being overactive, chasing the play. This has led to him being caught out of position and being vulnerable to opening holes through his body.

Delia will start the season with the Bakersfield Condors in a likely tandem with prospect Olivier Rodrigue. His role will likely be as the organizational number 3, but with a slight twist. I’d expect Olivier Rodrigue to carry the bulk of the starts with the Condors at the AHL level, but Delia would be the first recall in case of injury to Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard.
