Edmonton Oilers Prospects Roundup: Condors clinch a playoff spot, Lachance off to the Frozen Four

The Edmonton Oilers’ prospects had a very memorable week this week! The Bakersfield Condors clinched a post-season berth on the back of a massive performance from Olivier Rodrigue. Shane Lachance and Boston won both of their qualification games on route to a spot in the Frozen Four.

This side of the border, James Stefan and Portland are through to the next round of the playoffs in the WHL, while Brady Stonehouse’s Ottawa 67s and injured Beau Akey’s Barrie Colts are up 2–1 in their respective playoffs.

There is so much to get into this week- let’s dive right in!

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is younger than 25 years of age. All data is from EliteProspects. We also use an NHLe calculator built by Christian Roatis (@Croatis) which is used to estimate a player’s equivalent point total in the NHL based on how they are performing in their respective league. The calculator uses the difficulty of the given league combined with the ease at which a player puts up points to determine the NHLe.

AHL

  • The Condors went 1–2–0 this week, losing to Ontario and Henderson, but beating Tuscon most recently. That win clinched a playoff spot for the team.
  • Four assists this week for Philip Broberg, who has been very good of late. He has only played 44 games this season, and sits 28th in the AHL in scoring among defencemen.
  • Olivier Rodrigue played all three games for the Condors this week, and was the first star in the win over Tuscon. He sits 14th in the league in save percentage.

Europe

  • Jeremias Lindewall had 12 points in 11 qualification games in the HockeyEttan, Sweden’s third division. It’s worth noting that as a 22-year-old, he should definitely be playing in a higher league.

NCAA

  • Shane Lachance and Boston University are headed to the Frozen Four finals. They faceoff against Denver in the semis.
  • The freshman played on the top line alongside projected first overall pick Macklin Celebrini and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jack Harvey. Lachance had a goal and two assists in the qualifying games against RIT and Minnesota.
  • All of the other prospects in the NCAA are finished for the season.

OHL

  • The Barrie Colts are down 2–1 in their first round series against the top-seeded Oshawa Generals. Akey suffered a season-ending injury in November and has not played since.
  • Brady Stonehouse and the Ottawa 67’s are up 2-1 as well against the Brantford Bulldogs. Stonehouse has one assist.

Russia

  • Maxim Beryozkin and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl are through to the third round of the playoffs. The Russian prospect has 11 points in 13 games so far.

WHL

  • The Oilers signed James Stefan out of the WHL a couple weeks back. He and the Portland Winterhawks demolished Victoria 4–0 in the first round of the playoffs, and are through to the second round. The winger finished with 101 points in 67 games and added eight points in the first four playoff games.
  • Of his eight points, five were goals and three of which were in the same game. Take a look at his hat-trick here:
