Sources: Connor McDavid was determined to be ineligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame

After torching up the league the last few months, and catapulting to the top of the the NHL points leaders this past weekend, Connor McDavid’s historic season has been one for the record books.

Unfortunately, this has come with a bit of bad news in the form of a recent decision from the Hockey Hall of Fame committee. Per sources, the HHOF has ruled that Connor McDavid is now ineligible and can no longer be named to the Hall when his career is finished.

Why is that? Let’s take a look:

He’s just too good

When news broke on Monday morning that McDavid’s eligibility was being eliminated, we reached out to the Chair of the Board of Directors, Lanny McDonald, for comment:

“Well first of all I just want to say that this was an incredibly difficult decision for the Hockey Hall of Fame. We always want to celebrate the best in our sport, and sadly this was just a time in which we thought it was the best move. Connor McDavid has had an incredible start to his career, in fact almost too incredible.

With McDavid’s numbers to start his career, several current HHOF members reached out asking if we could make sure he doesn’t get in because it makes their careers look bad in comparison. Comments I heard were “It’s just not fair” and “No one cares about me anymore, they just care about McJesus.” I’m We value our member’s feedback and decided we had to act fast to ensure that McDavid’s career can’t be called “Hockey Hall of Fame Worthy”

Additionally, McDavid has continually made my hometown team look inferior consistently. Since I run this thing, I just can’t have this happen. Go Flames.”

Wow. I guess in this world it’s possible to be too good for the Hall of Fame.

The Oil Rig reached out for comment to McDavid and his camp and got this in return:

“As disappointing as it is to be denied entry into the Hockey Hall of Fame this early in my career, I refuse to let this setback define my legacy. My career speaks for itself, and while I may not have received the recognition I hoped for today, I take solace in knowing that I gave my all to the game I love. I’ll keep pushing forward, driven by the same passion and dedication that got me here in the first place. I am happy to announce that today, I am starting my initiative “The Hall of Hockey Fame” to ensure that these more established careers can be celebrated down the line”

This surely is just the beginning of what will be an ugly battle.

Happy April Fools Oilers fans!
