After yet another incredible week that saw him push ever closer to 100 assists on the season, as well as briefly taking over the NHL scoring lead, the NHL has named Connor McDavid the first star of the week!
Connor McDavid’s week in review
This week’s performance saw him record three goals and five assists as the Edmonton Oilers swept the week, winning all three of their games.
Two assists helped guide the Oilers to a 4-3 OT win over the Winnipeg Jets. A goal and two more assists gave the Oilers a comfortable cushion as they beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-1. And three more points, two goals and an assist, guided Edmonton to a whopping 6-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
McDavid enters the week with 125 points, sitting third in the league and just two points behind Nathan Mackinnon for the scoring lead. And with 96 assists, meaning he will likely hit the 100 assist mark in a season this week.
The best of the rest
Logan Thompson, goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights, won the second star of the week. He won all three games he started last week, giving up just three goals on 105 shots. This hot stretch has helped get the Golden Knights back into third place in the division after nearly falling out of a playoff spot.
And taking home third star of the week is Alexis Lafreniere of the New York Rangers. He led the NHL with five goals last week, a total of seven points. This included his first career hat trick in a five point night against the Arizona Coyotes.
