Connor McDavid reaches 100 points for the seventh time in his career, sights set on Art Ross

The Edmonton Oilers are finding themselves back in a good groove after some streaky performances after the All-Star break that included a three-game losing skid on home ice. Since then, they’ve gone on to win five games in a row and not just catch but blow right past the Vegas Golden Knights for second in the Pacific Division.

Connor McDavid scores 100

One of the biggest reasons they are where they are is of course the performance of captain Connor McDavid. For the seventh time in his career, he’s reached the century mark, scoring point #100 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Down 3–0 after the first period, the Oilers mounted their comeback attempt with Zach Hyman scoring his 43rd goal of the season, and McDavid picked up the primary assist. Point #100.

While McDavid is well behind his 153-point pace from last season, he’s still on track to post the second best single-season performance of his career. He needs to score 124 points to pass his 2021–22 mark, and he has over games left to do so. This is almost a certainty at this point in the season.

McDavid’s chasing the Art Ross

For 2023–24, McDavid is the third player to score 100 points as he’s trailing Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon. That said, he’s hot on their tails and can very much finish the season as the Art Ross Trophy winner. Right now, it’s anybody’s guess who will win it, but after a slow start to the season, McDavid has put himself right back in the race as a favourite.
