Edmonton Oilers unveil spectacular logos for season’s Cultural Celebration Nights

The Edmonton Oilers have three Cultural Celebration Nights left in their schedule for the 2023–24 season—one already having been played back in November—and they have revealed the logos that will be used to commemorate the evening’s celebrations. All four are phenomenal designs prominently featuring cultural symbols, patterns, and colours while fusing them together with the Oilers logo.

These works of art deserve to be showcased as much as possible!

Indigenous Heritage Night

Although this game was played back on November 13, the logo deserves another look.

Lance Cardinal, the logo’s designer, explains that the logo being placed on the back of a turtle symbolizes Turtle Island, which is what Indigenous people call North America. It is a symbol that encapsulates and represents everyone and all forms of life on Earth.

Lunar New Year

Coming up in just a few weeks is the Lunar New Year celebration. On February 13 versus the Detroit Red Wings, the Oilers will celebrate the Lunar New Year with this unique design.

The dragon, featured quite prominently in this design, is the symbol for 2024 in the Chinese Zodiac Calendar. According to Pete Nguyen, the logo’s designer, the dragon symbolizes boldness, confidence, courage, intelligence, and enthusiasm. Explaining why he made the design choice to feature the dragon as such a powerful focal symbol in this logo.

Celebrating Black History

AJA Louden put together a fantastic logo connecting the African continent and integrating different features from a variety of different communities.

According to Louden, patterns featured in the logo are inspired by Kente, Aso Oke, and Nubian weaving traditions. These are combined with symbols and textures from Batik and Bogolafini fabric printing techniques.

This logo does an amazing job at putting all of these different representations together for a unique spin on the Oilers logo. It will be on display for Celebrating Black History Night on February 21 versus the Boston Bruins.

South Asian Celebration Night

The final logo in the Oilers Cultural Celebration Night portfolio is for South Asian Celebration Night on March 21 against the Buffalo Sabres.

The logo, designed by Sunny Nerval, features a peacock wrapped around the Oilers logo. This is done to symbolize unity, diversity, and community. The peacock, which is an incredibly diverse animal, represents the diversity of the South Asian community, as well as the diversity of the Oilers fanbase.

      1. Lol, another triggered libta rd! Enough of the woke nonsense, it’s purely far left virtue signaling, fuckface!

    1. And where are your ancestors from white face dip shit. The Oilers celebrate the diversity of all their fans.
      GO OILERS

  1. The Oilers do not celebrate the diversity of all their fans. No European night, no Muslim night and no South American night to name a few.
