Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 36: Edmonton gets into a playoff spot with seventh win in a row

The Edmonton Oilers continue to be the hottest team in the league as they’ve now reached seven straight wins. Their latest though was a big one as it put them into a wild card position. This was after being 31st in the league at the end of October.

Charts and observations from the big win over the Ottawa Senators can be seen below!

Game events

  • The Oilers were all out on offence with a 46-shot effort.
  • They also had the edge with faceoff wins and were able to score twice on their three power play opportunities.

  • A Zach Hyman hat trick extended his team lead on goals as he now has 25 on the season—good for a tie for fourth in the entire NHL.
  • Evan Bouchard also picked up two power play assists to continue building his case for the Norris Trophy.

All situations Corsi

  • Both teams were fairly close in shot attempts, it’s just that Edmonton had way more hit the net.
  • They went a long stretch in the first period with minimal shots at all but still managed to get 46 shots.
  • Two goals from in front of the crease and a plethora of shots coming from high-danger areas… This is Edmonton Oilers brand offence and it’s been a big part of their success.
  • The defence was good for the Oilers as well as Ottawa didn’t get too many high-danger shots off at all, although they did score one from in close.

5v5 Corsi

  • The Oilers were better at 5v5 throughout the game as they had a sizeable gap more often than not. It wasn’t until the Oilers scored their second goal of the game in the third period that the Senators picked up the pace to match Edmonton’s output.
  • At 5v5, the Oilers still boast an incredibly effective offence and this is again highlighted by the sheer volume of shots they get in front of the net.
  • Unfortunately they didn’t score from in close at 5v5, but they didn’t need to with their power play doing that for them instead.
