Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 31: Another four-goal third period secures win for Edmonton over Rangers

The Edmonton Oilers faced off against one of the league’s top teams in the New York Rangers on a second night of a back-to-back. Having played a good game against the New Jersey Devils the night prior en route to snapping a losing streak, the Oilers looked to earn back-to-back wins before the Christmas break.

For the second night in a row, the Oilers scored four third period goals. This stunned the New York Rangers as their one-goal lead turned into a three-goal deficit in the matter of seven minutes between the first and fourth Oilers goals.

With two games in a row with four-goal third periods, the Oilers became the sixth team in the past 35 seasons to achieve that feat. The last team to do the same were the Los Angeles Kings back in 2013.

All of Edmonton’s goals came at 5v5 and they all came from shots from in close. This is a good trend for the team as they are starting to consistently convert on high-quality chances that they were snakebitten on for the first quarter of the season.
