Oilers Game Recaps

Oilers Visual Recap 10: Edmonton continues to tumble, overpowered by Nashville in afternoon tilt

On a Saturday afternoon at Rogers Place, the Edmonton Oilers faced off against the Nashville Predators but couldn’t secure a victory, falling 5–2. This loss marks their sixth defeat in the last seven games, leaving them with a disappointing overall record of 2–7–1 for the season.

The game saw a standout performance from Ryan O’Reilly of the Nashville Predators, who recorded a hat-trick and an assist. His linemate Filip Forsberg was equally impressive with a goal and two assists. Kevin Lankinen, the Predators’ goaltender, made 33 saves and played a pivotal role in their victory.

The Oilers started the game on a positive note, as Darnell Nurse scored a power play goal at 9:57 of the first period. However, their lead was short-lived, as Forsberg quickly tied the game just 25 seconds later with a goal to answer.

The second period was dominated on the scoreboard by the Predators, with O’Reilly and Forsberg striking again. O’Reilly scored 23 seconds into the period and added another power play goal shortly after, putting Nashville ahead 3–1. The Oilers managed to claw one back when Zach Hyman redirected a shot into the net on a power play.

However, the Predators weren’t finished. Tommy Novak extended the lead for Nashville, making it 4–2 with a goal late in the second period. O’Reilly later completed his hat trick in the third period, securing a 5–2 victory for the Predators.

Raphael Lavoie made his debut after being called up and played 9:25, but was unable to notch his first NHL point.

The Oilers now face a challenging three-game road trip, beginning with a matchup against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena—the same team that played a large role in the Oilers’ poor start to the season.
