The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Lane Pederson to a two-year deal with a $775k AAV.
Pederson, 25, spent his 2022–23 season jumping around the AHL and NHL, playing games for the Chicago Wolves, Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver Canucks, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
He has played 71 games over three seasons in his NHL career, scoring four goals and eleven points. He has spent most of his time in the AHL, playing 227 games while recording 166 points over six seasons.
Although Pederson may not be the most offensively inclined player, he possesses plenty of physical tools to contribute in other ways. He engages physically and piles on hits, averaging 2.3 hits per game over his NHL career.
Within the Oilers’ lineup, Pederson’s addition to the lineup gives Edmonton some depth and competition for the fourth-line centre role, though he likely joins the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors for most of the season. He is a fairly versatile player who can play in any forward position, making him a great potential option as a 13th forward to carry with the team.
