The Edmonton Oilers faced off against the Arizona Coyotes in a game that meant little to Arizona, but much more to Edmonton. The Oilers are on the tails of the Los Angeles Kings for second in the Pacific and are very much in the race for home ice advantage for the playoffs.
In this game, the Oilers were the better team in most metrics, but the Coyotes were opportunistic in their limited chances. The two teams traded goals—one each per period—with the Oilers taking the lead once in the first and the Coyotes taking the lead twice in the other two periods. However, each goal was answered by the other team and the game required overtime to solve.
Connor McDavid had already scored the game’s opening goal, but he scored again in overtime to reach the 60-goal plateau and give the Oilers the win.
