The Edmonton Oilers hosted the defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
It was a very lopsided game at 5v5 with the Avalanche dominating possession, chances, zone time, and pretty much everything in between. The Oilers, however, used their lethal power play to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Both goals came from Zach Hyman, the first midway through the opening period and the second midway through the second period.
From there, it was all Avalanche. Nathan MacKinnon scored a highlight reel goal to get on the board, and Brad Hunt scored to tie things up later in the third period. In overtime, Cale Makar went end-to-end for a gorgeous winner, unfortunately handing the Oilers a loss.
They still picked up a point though, and that’s what matters in this one.
