Hot off a win over the Minnesota Wild two days ago, the Edmonton Oilers faced off against the Wild once again in a mini revenge match. This time though, it didn’t go the Oilers’ way.
At 5v5, the Wild dominated play all night long. Without the Oilers’ power play to help even things out, this game would have been a lot less tight.
Matt Boldy opened the scoring for the Wild midway through the first period with a power play tally. Just a few minutes later, Zach Hyman evened things up with a power play goal of his own. In the second period, the Wild regained the lead with an even strength goal from Frederick Gaudreau, and that’s all the scoring we’d see in this game.
At 5v5, the Wild won the scoring chance battle 27–11, the high-danger chance battle 11–4, and had 74% expected goals share. This one was really not close.
The Oilers will have a chance to get back into the win column tonight on the second half of the back-to-back against the Nashville Predators.
Charts from the game are below.
