Breaking records: Evan Bouchard’s blistering scoring pace in the 2024 NHL playoffs

The Edmonton Oilers barely snuck through the second round with a Game 7 win over the Vancouver Canucks. And within that, numerous players have been setting records and putting their names in amongst the all-time greats with their standout offensive performances.

One such player is Evan Bouchard. Through the first two rounds of the 2024 NHL Playoffs (12 games), he has recorded 20 points.

Evan Bouchard’s 2024 postseason thus far

Bouchard has put himself in amongst elite company in the Oilers organization with his 82 points in the regular season, scoring at a rate from the blueline not seen since Paul Coffey. He has continued and exceeded that in the playoffs.

His performance, hitting 20 points through 12 games is historic and puts him on a level all of his own. As Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl spend their time becoming the best playoff performers in history behind Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, Bouchard is setting these records himself.

Bouchard has scored five goals this postseason. Three of which have been game winners. So not only is he contributing, he is coming in clutch in important moments. Including an overtime winner and a game winner with 30 seconds left in just this series versus Vancouver.

The Oilers have a unique offensive weapon from the blueline who has taken his game to a new level this season. His pairing with Mattias Ekholm has helped develop his game and given him the ability to best utilize his talents, and he is in the perfect situation to continue pushing offensive records in these playoffs.

Bouchard already sits 22nd all time for points in a single postseason by a defender. The current leader is his defensive coach, Coffey, who had 37 points in the 1984–85 playoffs.

Will Bouchard be able to challenge for that record?
