Ranking the Edmonton Oilers’ 2022 Halloween costumes

The Edmonton Oilers have had a spooky start to the 2022–23 season, but the team was able to find their groove finishing off the first month with a 6–3–0 record and second in the Pacific Division. They’ve also managed to place second in our Canadian team power rankings.

What better way to end off the month than with the Oilers’ annual Halloween bash. The team seems to always go all out when it comes to costumes, giving fans something to look forward to.

Although there were many participants in this year’s Halloween festivities, only those deemed worthy of the top ten spots will be featured. Consideration for rankings include creativity, execution, and relevance. Who will end up as the 2022 Halloween costume champion? Let’s find out!

10. Stuart Skinner

The Edmonton goaltending product and his wife are looking absolutely stu-pendous in their disco-inspired costumes. The moustache definitely enhances the 70s outfit but the rest is somewhat lacklustre. The internet is echoing Disco Stu from The Simpsons, but major components are missing such as the full suit and the hair. Although Skinner is currently the best in the league with a 0.955 SV%, he missed the mark on his costume, putting him in tenth.

9. Connor McDavid

The captain and his girlfriend dressed up as Tony Montana and Elvira Hancock from the movie Scarface. The execution was far from perfect as they both could’ve put in a bit more effort into their hairstyles. Not to mention Scarface is hardly a unique costume idea when it comes to Halloween.

These two have given the fans better costumes in the past such as the Grinch and Cindy Lou, Homer and Marge Simpson, and a group costume as Friends. McDavid might be leading the league in points and goals scored, but unfortunately he’s landed himself ninth for this year’s Halloween.

8. Kailer Yamamoto

The 2017 first-round draft pick and his girlfriend went as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. The nightgown and the bonnet complete the look so well you may confuse him for grandma. Oh my, what big hands you have Yams. The better to score goals with, my dear.

7. Evan Bouchard, Warren Foegele, Ryan McLeod

A group costume finds themselves next on our list. McLeod, Foegele, Bouchard, and along with their partners dressed up as a six-pack of Corona beers. The costumes leave us desiring more as it seems most of the pieces come from liquor store freebies. How they managed to find yellow bucket hats in the middle of fall is quite the feat which bumped them up to seventh place.

6. Zach Hyman

Coming off his two-goal game against the Flames, the best-selling author and his wife showed up as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. With the recent release of the biographical drama Pam and Tommy, the controversial couple has made a resurgence into the world.

Hyman went all out for this costume including a full sleeve tattoo and carefully crafted facial hair; his wife adorning the iconic 90s blonde curly updo. Despite the fact that the execution was sound, Pam and Tommy are an overused duo costume deserving of sixth place.

5. Devin Shore

A true comfort sitcom, Devin Shore and his family dressed up as characters from The Office. Shore perfected the Jim Halpert look with his wig and tie. His wife went as Pam Beesly and their son as a mini-Dwight Schrute. The truth is, if you can manage to make Dwight look adorable, you deserve to be near the top of the list.

4. Darnell Nurse

The Oilers’ top defenceman and his wife went as the late painter, Bob Ross, and one of his paintings. It is definitely a unique couple’s costume that stands out from the ones previously mentioned. Nurse perfectly encapsulated the artist from the afro and beard to his light-coloured buttoned-up shirt. Great creativity and execution from these newlyweds.

3. Cody Ceci

Cody Ceci and his wife definitely came in like a wrecking ball to the Halloween bash. The defenceman dressed up as Miley Cyrus while his wife was the wrecking ball. Kudos to his glam team as they were impeccable in replicating Miley’s hair, makeup and wardrobe.

2. Tyson Barrie

The pose, the hair, the tan! Tyson Barrie and his wife definitely checked off all the boxes deserving to be second on our list. They dressed up as Ken and Barbie from the upcoming movie starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie. Maybe a popular costume for this year with the movie and all, it doesn’t negate the fact Barrie’s was very well executed.

1. Jesse Puljujarvi

Coming in at first place is none other than Jesse Puljujarvi. He and his girlfriend dressed up as Darla Sherman and Nemo from the Disney-Pixar classic, Finding Nemo. The execution is absolutely flawless from the wig to the headgear to the details of the shirt.

The Finnish player seems to be on an absolute tear when it comes to Halloween including last year’s Bison King costume. With constant discourse on whether the Oilers should keep Puljujarvi, it is evident he gives it his all, both off and on the ice.

November should be less scary for the Oilers

Not everyone can be the Halloween ‘stume champion, but there’s still plenty of hockey left for the Oilers to become the Stanley Cup Champions. With October officially over, let’s hope the month of November is off to a smoother start.

Tonight the Oilers are to face the Nashville Predators who are sixth in the Central Division. Since defeating the Calgary Flames a few days ago, the team should be well rested and ready for another win.
