Edmonton Oilers select Ryan Cameron 212th overall in the 2026 NHL Draft

With the 212th overall selection in the 2026 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers have selected goaltender Ryan Cameron out of the USHL. He is coming off a bit of a rough season, but the Oilers are in desperate need of goaltending. Cameron plays for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the USHL. He posted .882 SV%, but ultimately had a 24-11-5 record. If he can make saves when it truly matters, that is what counts.

Who is Cameron?

Cameron is a six-foot-tall goalie who had dominating numbers in the NAHL. During the 2024-25 season, he posted a .948 SV% alongside a 1.24 GAA. Not to mention, he also had nine shutouts. He was clearly ready to face some tougher competition, which is why he made the jump to the USHL. Cameron played with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, having an up-and-down season. As mentioned briefly before, the stats are not there, but the record was.

Analyzing the pick

In basic terms, this was a good pick. Goaltending is always a problem for the Oilers. They have passed on and traded the picks for goalies in previous drafts, which has seriously caused some issues. Cameron may not be the next superstar goalie in Edmonton, but they need as many goalie prospects as they possibly can. Right now, they only have Tristan Jarry in net, as they missed out on Sebastian Cossa. Overall, this was a good selection that provides some depth in the goaltending area in Oil Country.

What is next for Cameron?

As of right now, Cameron is set to play for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL for the 2026-27 season. He was just traded there in May. It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back in that league after having a mediocre year. In the 2027-28 season, Cameron is supposed to go play for Boston College in the NCAA. This will provide him with some huge competition, which will prove whether he is NHL worthy or not.

Cameron is still a long way away from being an NHL goalie. Hopefully, the future is bright for him.
