The Edmonton Oilers have added some draft capital here on day two of the 2026 NHL Draft. Originally set to pick 52nd in the second round, the team traded down to 58th while adding a fifth round pick in this year’s draft, allowing them to pick 133rd. With that pick, they have selected defender Andrew Robinson.
Robinson, drafted out of the OHL playing for the Windsor Spitfires, had 24 points in 63 games last season. He was the 205th ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting. The 18-year-old defender was born in Oakville, Ontario.
What type of player is Andrew Robinson?
Robinson seems to be an intriguing prospect. The strongest part of his game is his transition play, and he shows signs of understanding what it takes to be a modern day NHL defender. However, he is not ranked highly among prospects as his defensive and offensive game are underdeveloped and inconsistent.
He is at his best when identifying times to engage with the play. Robinson keeps his game simple, generally, and has reasonable gap control.
But, his floor and general level of play indicate he will be unlikely to make an impact anytime soon, if ever. The times everything does click for him, however, he looks like he could turn into a meaningful depth piece in the Oilers organization.
What is next for Andrew Robinson?
Robinson will continue his junior career for the time being. Elite Prospects indicates he will be joining Providence College in the NCAA for the 2027–28 season to continue his development.
If Robinson does make it to the professional level, it will not be for many years.
