The 2026 NHL playoffs are taking place in 12 days. It is time to start talking about the offseason and what the Edmonton Oilers will do.
What are some of the moves that they make before the start of the 2026–27 season? There are two players that we can keep our eye on, and one is a betting favourite for the Oilers. Edmonton is going to continue their prospect ways by adding yet another young prospect to their pool.
21-year-old German right winger Veit Oswald has generated some NHL interest, with the Edmonton Oilers being the betting favourite. It seems like Edmonton will be the most likely landing spot for Veit, but only time will tell. Oswald played the 2025–26 season in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), which is the highest division in German ice hockey.
Veit Oswald’s career
Oswald is a 6′ 2″, 176 lbs winger who was born in Landshut, Germany. He has never played for a North American team and instead has played his entire career in Germany. Before he hit the big leagues, Oswald played for his local youth teams before making his DEL debut in Munchen. With the EHC Munchen in 2022–23, that season saw him pick up three assists in 23 regular season games. Veit also played two postseason games en route to his team winning the Champions HL trophy.
Oswald spent most of his 2022–23 season with the SC Riessersee on loan in the Germany3 league. In 19 games, Oswald managed four goals and five assists for nine points. He also had the opportunity to represent Germany at the World Junior Championship, where he scored one goal and two points in five games.
Oswald became a pretty consistent player for Munchen in 2023–24, where he scored ten goals and 17 points in 38 games played. This time at the 2024 WJC (World Junior Championship), Veit managed three goals and two assists for five points in four games.
His scoring for whatever reason dropped off in 2024–25, where he potted just two goals and six assists for eight points in 46 games. He came back to reality and blossomed in 2025–26, where he scored 26 points in 38 regularseason games. 12 goals and 14 assists with 17 penalty minutes (PIM). In the playoffs, Oswald earned two goals and one assist for a total of three points in six games.

Is Veit Oswald a good fit for the Edmonton Oilers?
Well, right now, we are not sure whether the Oilers will land him. It seems like these are the types of plays that they have been making to restock their prospect pool over the past year and a half. To give you some examples, Edmonton signed Czechia defenceman Tomas Cibulka to an entry-level contract.
It was not too long after that when they signed Owen Michaels to a one-year, entry-level contract, which began this season. Owen also helped Western Michigan win its first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2025. He recorded 18 goals and 18 assists for a regularseason total of 36 points in 42 games. In the Frozen Four, he scored four goals and was named the 2025 Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player (MVP).
When you look at their recent signings, the Oilers have made this look like their path forward to maintain their window of contention. Other players recently signed include fellow German Josh Samanski, Quinn Hutson, Atro Leppanen, and plenty of others. The Oilers have also been linked to Hobey Baker finalist T.J. Hughes, and so have most NHL teams.
As I had mentioned, only time will tell if anything will come from this report. All I can say is that I believe Veit Oswald will be a great fit in the development program of the Edmonton Oilers.
