Report: Zach Hyman may be back in the lineup earlier than expected

Going into this season, it was expected that Zach Hyman would be out of action for an extended period of time. The team on the ice would need to play without him after Hyman underwent wrist surgery for an injury suffered in the Western Conference Final.

However, Coach Kris Knoblauch announced today that he expects Hyman back a bit sooner, as early as the first of November.

What does this mean for the Edmonton Oilers?

The Oilers have been off to a poor start to the season, and desperately could use Hyman back in the lineup. The team has rotated their lines quite heavily through the first few games this year, particularly on the wing with Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, and having Hyman as an option there will be immensely valuable.

Despite starting the season with a 3–3–1 record, the Oilers sit 26th in the league in goals for with just 18. The team could definitely use Hyman back in the lineup, and ideally, the Hyman of two seasons back, who had 54 goals in 80 games.

While he will likely take a few games to get back up to game speed, having him back in the lineup will be enormous for the team. Fingers crossed he’s back in the lineup soon.
