Edmonton Oilers

The week ahead for the Edmonton Oilers: time to find the momentum.

The Edmonton Oilers’ 2025โ€“26 regular season, for the third year in a row, is off to yet another slow start. Starting week #2, the Oilers found themselves on the road against one of the original six teams, the New York Rangers.

How this week’s games played out

Edmonton Oilers vs New York Rangers

Stuart Skinner was fantastic in this game and was able to earn himself a 30-save shutout. Edmonton walked away with a 2โ€“0 victory, with a goal from Trent Frederic and an empty-netter from Adam Henrique. The Rangers outshot the Oilers 30โ€“22. Stuart Skinner was the first star of the game, while Frederic was the second star.

Edmonton Oilers vs New York Islanders

On the road again, the Oilers saw a matchup against the other New York team, the New York Islanders. Edmonton struggled in this game and ended up losing by a final score of 4โ€“2.

The Oilers received their goals from one of their veterans and one of the best players in the world (not named Connor McDavid). Leon Draisaitl scored the first Oilers goal, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring their only other goal. Edmonton outshot the Islanders 33โ€“25, but still could not find a way to keep the puck out of their net. A common theme in the early part of the season.

Edmonton Oilers vs New Jersey Devils

Game three in week two saw the Oilers come face-to-face with the New Jersey Devils. Edmonton again could not just find a way to win and lost the game by a final score of 5โ€“3.

The Oilers received their goals from one of their hottest players right now and one of their newest players as well. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ goal scoring continued, with him potting the first two Oilers goals. Curtis Lazar, one of the team’s newest additions, was able to score his first goal as an Oiler in his first game of the season. Edmonton outshot the Devils 30โ€“23, but unfortunately still lost the game.

Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings

The final game of the week took place last night in Michigan, against the Detroit Red Wings. The Oilers found themselves up against a team that was currently on a four-game winning streak. Their third loss in a row, the Oilers yet again lost the game by a final score of 4โ€“2.

Edmonton received its goals from one of its younger players and Leon Draisaitl, yet again. Noah Philp scored his second goal of the season in his third game this year. Leon Draisaitl scored his fourth of the season in his sixth game. The Red Wings outshot the Oilers 24โ€“18 and deserved to win this game as well. Brett Kulak earned the third star of the game.
